sysfs

sysfs is the user-visible device model representation

It must be explicitly mounted
mount -t sysfs none /sys

Currently not necessary for system operation
Unless you use udev

Each sysfs entry is a directory

Individual attributes represented as files
All files contain textual information
One value per file
Except for the exceptions, of course

There is a strong desire to avoid the /proc mess
