Sweep: Real-world audio editing on Linux

Conrad Parker

BiographyBioAudioAudio

This paper outlines my recent work on Sweep, a digital audio editor, as part of a contract with Pixar Animation Studios (where it is now used in animation production) and further work supported by the CSIRO.

Sweep is Free Software, available under the GNU General Public License.

This presentation will include:

  • a brief demonstration of Sweep's capabilities, including multichannel editing, recording, and interactive scrubbing
  • an overview of Sweep's internals, including the implementation of vinyl style "scrubbing" and monitoring of playback latency
  • an introduction to writing Sweep and LADSPA[*] plugins
  • integration with Ogg Vorbis, Speex, MP3 and PCM formats

* LADSPA is the Linux Audio Developer's Simple Plugin API, a standard for audio effects and synthesis plugins developed by the linux-audio-dev community.
